Where the fan works and the light does not, the hood plainly has power, so the fault is the lamp, its holder or the light switch. Many hoods now use small LED modules rather than a replaceable bulb, and on those the whole module has to be changed — which is worth knowing before taking the hood apart hoping to find a bulb.
The usual causes
- A blown lamp or failed LED module
- A corroded or grease-fouled lamp holder
- A failed light switch on the control panel
- A wiring connection loosened by heat and vibration over time
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything past this point — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the appliance plugged in.
- Isolate the hood, let it cool, and check whether the lamp is a replaceable bulb or a sealed LED module
- Replace a standard bulb like for like, matching the type and wattage exactly
- If it is an LED module, the module rather than a bulb is the part needed
