What E01 actually means
The dishwasher hasn't taken in enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped rather than trying to wash with a part-empty tub.
During the fill stage the machine counts the water going in using a small flow meter with a spinning impeller. If that impeller doesn't turn, or turns too slowly for the control board to register a proper fill, the cycle is halted and the fault is shown. It is a fill fault first and foremost — the machine isn't reporting a leak or a pump problem.
What E01 looks like on a Cookology dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Cookology dishwasher, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Dishwasher not draining
- Water left in the tub at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle

What usually causes it
- Water supply turned off, or the tap only part open
- Kinked, trapped or crushed fill hose behind the machine
- Blocked inlet filter or a scaled-up, sticking inlet valve restricting flow
- Limescale build-up stopping the flow meter impeller from spinning freely
- Faulty flow meter or its small circuit board, so water goes in but isn't counted
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open and that the household water is on
- Make sure the fill hose isn't kinked, twisted or pinched — countertop models get shoved back against a wall and trap the hose
- On a countertop model, disconnect the hose from the tap and check water runs from the tap at a decent rate before reconnecting
- Take the filter out of the base, rinse it and refit it so it seats properly — a badly seated filter lets food into the water system
- Turn the machine off at the socket for a minute, then power up and start a fresh cycle to see if the code returns
