What F15 actually means
The control board has lost proper control of the heating, so the machine either won't heat or stops part-way through a wash or drying cycle.
On Indesit washer dryers, F15 is a heater control fault. The main control board is meant to switch the heating on and off through a relay and check that what it asked for actually happened; when the feedback doesn't match, it shuts the cycle down rather than keep heating blind. Typically the owner sees a wash that stalls with cold water still in the drum, or a drying cycle that stops early with the load still damp.
What F15 looks like on a Indesit washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Indesit washer dryer, F15 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A failed heater relay on the main control board — the most common finding on this code
- A faulty heating element in the wash or drying circuit
- A failed thermostat or temperature sensor feeding the heating circuit
- Damaged or loose wiring between the board and the heater
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and restart the programme — an occasional one-off glitch will clear and not return
- Note whether it fails during the wash or during the drying phase, and roughly how far in; that tells the engineer which heating circuit is involved
