What E30 actually means
The machine has tried to fill with water, hasn't got enough in the allotted time, and has stopped the cycle rather than carry on dry.
Bosch's control module gives the machine a set window at the start of the cycle to take in the water it expects. If the level hasn't been reached by the time that window closes, it abandons the fill and puts up this code " of pressing start. On Bosch machines built before roughly 2010 the identical physical fault showed as F17, F29, E17 or E29 " the display language changed, the fault behind it didn't.
What E30 looks like on a Bosch washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Bosch washer dryer, E30 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up

What usually causes it
- Water tap to the machine turned off or only part-open
- Inlet hose kinked, crushed behind the machine or trapped by a unit
- Blocked mesh filter where the hose screws onto the tap or the machine
- Faulty water inlet valve that isn't opening when told to
- Genuinely low mains water pressure, often after work on the supply nearby
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the water tap behind or under the machine is fully open, not just cracked open
- Run the cold tap at a nearby sink " if pressure is poor everywhere, the problem is the supply, not the machine
- Look behind the machine and make sure the inlet hose isn't kinked, twisted or pinched against the wall
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power back up and restart a cycle " this clears the code if the fill problem has gone away
- If you've recently moved the machine or had plumbing done, check nothing was left shut off
