What E21 actually means

The machine has lost the signal that tells it how much water is inside, so it stops rather than risk filling or heating blind.

On the Candy/Hoover "Cuore" control platform, E21 means the board is getting no usable reading from the water level sensor (the APS pressostat) — either the sensor itself, its wiring, or the power card has failed. Without knowing the water level, the machine can't safely decide when to stop filling, when to heat or when it is empty, so it halts the cycle. On models without a display you won't see the letters and numbers at all: the code shows as eleven flashes of the indicator lights between pauses.

What E21 looks like on a Candy washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Candy washer dryer, E21 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water
  • Standing water in the bottom
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Failed water level (pressure) sensor on the control board
  • A damaged, loose or corroded connection to that sensor
  • A faulty main "Cuore" power card
  • Blocked or split pressure chamber hose behind the tub, so the sensor reads nothing

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and start a short cycle — a one-off communication glitch will clear
  2. Clean the pump filter and check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe, so the drum is genuinely empty before you retry
  3. Check nothing heavy is jammed against the back of the machine that could have crushed a hose
