What F08 actually means
The machine has given up on heating the water — the control board either can't get the wash heater to work or can't see the water temperature rising when the heater should be on.
During the heating part of a wash, the board switches the element on and watches the temperature sensor to confirm the water is warming up. If nothing happens, or if the board can't operate the heater relay properly, it halts and shows this code. Owners usually notice the cycle stopping partway through, or clothes coming out washed in cold water with the drum still full.
What F08 looks like on a Indesit washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Indesit washer dryer, F08 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Failed wash heating element (the most common finding by far)
- Faulty NTC temperature sensor, so the board never sees the water get warm
- Heater relay on the main control board gone bad
- Damaged or corroded wiring between the board and the element
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and try a fresh cycle — occasionally the code is a one-off and won't return
- Note whether the fault appears during the wash or the drying part of the cycle, and roughly how far in — that saves an engineer time
