What F09 actually means
The machine's control board has lost or scrambled the settings it needs to run, so it won't accept a programme.
F09 on an Indesit washer dryer is a software or setup error \u2014 the memory chip on the main control board holds the data that tells the board which model it is fitted to and how the machine should behave, and the board has decided that data is missing, corrupted or doesn't match. Typically you'll see the display or the programme lights flashing and the machine will refuse to start a cycle at all. It isn't a mechanical fault: the drum, pump and heater are usually fine.
What F09 looks like on a Indesit washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Indesit washer dryer, F09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted data on the main control board's memory chip
- A replacement control board fitted without being set up for that model
- A mains surge or interruption during a cycle scrambling the stored settings
- A failing main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on \u2014 occasionally the board reinitialises and clears the code
- Try selecting a programme again from cold; note whether the lights flash in the same pattern every time, as that's useful information for the engineer
