Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What H01 actually means

The machine has stopped because the water is heating wrongly \u2014 the temperature is either not what it should be, or it is climbing far faster than expected.

Samsung machines monitor the wash water with a temperature sensor while the heater is on. If the readings are out of step with the programme \u2014 typically shooting up too fast \u2014 the control board shuts the heating down and shows this code rather than risk overheating the load or the drum. You'll usually see it part-way through a warm or hot wash, often with the drum full of water.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty water temperature sensor giving false readings
  • Heating element failing or shorted
  • Wiring connection to the sensor or heater has gone bad
  • Control board misreading the temperature signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a cold wash \u2014 if a cold cycle completes normally, that points at the heating side.
  2. Cancel the cycle and drain the machine using a rinse or spin programme before leaving it standing full of hot water.

When to call someone

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
