What E03 actually means
The oven's temperature sensor is no longer giving a sensible reading, so the control board has shut the heating down.
This appliance uses a PT1000 temperature probe to tell the control board how hot the cavity is. The manual lists the E03/E3 codes against that probe reading as either an open circuit or a short circuit ot just a value the board can work with. With no trustworthy temperature reading the board will not switch the elements on, because it has no way of knowing when to stop d on a pyrolytic model that matters a great deal.
What E03 looks like on a Servis hob
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis hob, E03 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not heating up
- Takes ages to get to temperature
- Cuts out part way through cooking
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Hob tripping the electrics
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- The PT1000 temperature probe itself has failed
- A damaged or disconnected lead between the probe and the control board
- Heat damage to the probe's wiring or connector, common after repeated pyrolytic cleaning cycles
- A fault on the control board's sensing circuit
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on ome control boards clear a one-off reading error on restart
- If the display shows a clock or timer that has reset after a power cut, set it he manual notes the oven will not run until the time and functions are set
- Check the fault is repeatable ot it appears only after a long pyrolytic clean while everything is still hot
Which Servis models show E03
E03 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
