What E26 actually means
The dishwasher has flagged a problem with the switch that controls and monitors how much water goes into the machine, so it has stopped rather than carry on filling.
Siemens machines use a water switch/regulator to keep the fill under control. When the control board decides that switch isn't reporting properly, it halts the programme with E26 rather than risk filling blind. What you usually see is a cycle that stops early, often with water still sitting in the machine.
What E26 looks like on a Siemens dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Siemens dishwasher, E26 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Faulty water switch or pressure regulator
- Poor connection between the switch and the control board
- Low or restricted water supply upsetting the fill readings
- Control board fault falsely reporting the switch
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and start a short programme — a genuine one-off glitch will clear
- Check the water tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open
- Make sure the fill hose behind the machine isn't kinked or trapped against the wall or a unit
