What F34 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is locked shut, so it won't start or finish a cycle.

On Bosch-built machines — Siemens included — F34 sits in the same family as F16 and E16, all of which relate to the door interlock. The control board sends power to lock the door at the start of the cycle and waits for confirmation that it has latched; if that confirmation doesn't arrive, or is lost partway through, the machine stops and flags the fault rather than filling with water. You'll usually see it right at the beginning of a wash, or occasionally with the drum full and the door refusing to release.

What usually causes it

A failed door interlock — by far the most common finding
The plastic pin or hook on the door not seating properly in the lock, often from a dropped or sagging door
Laundry or a stray sock caught between the door and the seal, stopping it closing fully
A damaged or loose wiring connection at the lock
A control board fault — genuinely rare, and often blamed wrongly before the lock has been ruled out

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door and run your hand round the rubber seal for trapped clothing, then close it again with a firm push until you hear it click
Look at whether the door sits square against the front of the machine — a door that has dropped may not be lining its pin up with the lock
Switch off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and try a short cycle; this clears a one-off glitch and tells you whether the fault is permanent
If the door is locked shut with water inside, leave it and don't force it
