What is actually happening

Most modern dishwashers do not have a heater blowing air — they dry by rinsing at high temperature and letting the residual heat evaporate the water off the load, with rinse aid making it sheet off rather than sit in droplets. So empty rinse aid, or a rinse that never got hot enough, look identical from the outside. Plastics staying wet while china dries is normal, not a fault.

The usual causes

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything past this point — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the appliance plugged in.

  1. Fill the rinse aid and turn the dosage up a notch
  2. Run a normal or intensive cycle rather than eco or quick and compare
  3. Open the door a few minutes after the cycle ends to let the steam out
  4. Accept that plastics drying poorly is normal — they hold no heat

Still not drying the dishes?

If it is still happening after those checks, then something has genuinely failed. £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Local engineers covering Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire — same and next-day appointments, and the person who comes out is one of ours, not a subcontractor.

Common questions

Why is my dishwasher not drying the dishes?

Everything comes out clean but soaking wet.

Can I fix a dishwasher not drying the dishes myself?

Fill the rinse aid and turn the dosage up a notch. Run a normal or intensive cycle rather than eco or quick and compare. Open the door a few minutes after the cycle ends to let the steam out. Accept that plastics drying poorly is normal — they hold no heat. This one usually clears with those checks and rarely needs an engineer at all.
