What is actually happening

The lamp itself is the usual answer, and it is one of the few oven parts genuinely worth changing yourself. They are a specific high-temperature type — an ordinary bulb will not survive — and they sit behind a glass cover that unscrews. Where a new lamp makes no difference, the fault is the holder or the wiring, and that is a different job.

The usual causes

• A blown oven lamp — a specific high-temperature type, not a standard bulb
• A corroded or burnt lamp holder
• A failed light switch or door switch
• A wiring fault at the back of the cavity

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything past this point — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the appliance plugged in.
