What is actually happening

The lamp itself is the usual answer, and it is one of the few oven parts genuinely worth changing yourself. They are a specific high-temperature type — an ordinary bulb will not survive — and they sit behind a glass cover that unscrews. Where a new lamp makes no difference, the fault is the holder or the wiring, and that is a different job.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything past this point — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the appliance plugged in.

  1. Isolate the cooker, let it cool, unscrew the glass cover and change the lamp for the correct high-temperature type
  2. If a new lamp does not work, stop there — the holder and wiring are an engineer job

Still light not working?

If it is still happening after those checks, then something has genuinely failed. £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it, or £84 in total including VAT if it is put right on the visit and no parts are needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Local engineers covering Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire — same and next-day appointments, and the person who comes out is one of ours, not a subcontractor.

Common questions

Why is my oven light not working?

The interior light has stopped working, though the oven still heats normally. The lamp itself is the usual answer, and it is one of the few oven parts genuinely worth changing yourself. Can I fix a oven light not working myself?

Isolate the cooker, let it cool, unscrew the glass cover and change the lamp for the correct high-temperature type. If a new lamp does not work, stop there — the holder and wiring are an engineer job. This one usually clears with those checks and rarely needs an engineer at all.
