What E02 actually means

The machine has asked for water and not received enough of it in the time allowed, so it has stopped and shown a fill fault.

E02 is "lack of water" — the control board opened the inlet valve, waited, and didn't see the drum fill as expected. Because these AWM models are washer-dryers, the fault sits on the washing side of the appliance: the cycle halts near the start, usually with the drum empty or barely wet, and it will not move on to the wash or the drying stage. It is one of only four codes Altimo intends the end user to see, the others being door lock, pump and overflow faults, so it is meant as a prompt to check the water supply before anything else.

What E02 looks like on a Altimo tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Altimo tumble dryer, E02 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • The cold tap or washing machine valve behind the appliance has been turned off or only part-opened
  • The fill hose is kinked, crushed against the wall or trapped after the machine was moved
  • A blocked filter screen where the fill hose joins the tap or the machine
  • Low mains water pressure, or the supply temporarily shut off in the building
  • A failed water inlet valve, or a pressure/level sensing fault reporting no fill to the control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the tap feeding the machine fully on and check water actually runs from another cold tap in the house
  2. Pull the machine forward gently and look along the fill hose for kinks or a trapped loop behind it
  3. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart a programme to see if the code returns
  4. If the machine was recently plumbed in or moved, check the hose is on the right tap and hand-tight, not loose

Which Altimo models show E02

E02 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Common questions about Altimo E02

What does E02 mean on a Altimo tumble dryer?

The machine has asked for water and not received enough of it in the time allowed, so it has stopped and shown a fill fault. Because these AWM models are washer-dryers, the fault sits on the washing side of the appliance: the cycle halts near the start, usually with the drum empty or barely wet, and it will not move on to the wash or the drying stage. Can I fix Altimo E02 myself?

There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Turn the tap feeding the machine fully on and check water actually runs from another cold tap in the house.
  2. Pull the machine forward gently and look along the fill hose for kinks or a trapped loop behind it.
  3. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart a programme to see if the code returns.
  4. If the machine was recently plumbed in or moved, check the hose is on the right tap and hand-tight, not loose.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
