Altimo E06 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E06 actually means

The control board has lost the speed signal from the drum motor, so it shuts the cycle down rather than run the motor blind.

Altimo lists E06 as Motor Failure - 1: either the tachometer (the small sensor that tells the board how fast the motor is turning) has gone open or short circuit, or the motor's connector has come adrift. Because the board can no longer confirm the drum is spinning at the speed it asked for, it stops the programme. This is one of the codes Altimo flags as service-only rather than a customer message, so on some models you may only see it in the fault log — what the owner notices is a cycle that dies early, often with the drum barely turning or not turning at all.

What usually causes it

The motor's tachometer coil has failed (open or short circuit)
Motor wiring plug has worked loose or a terminal has backed out
Chafed or broken wire in the harness between the board and the motor
Motor brushes or motor itself worn out, giving an unstable speed signal
Fault on the main control board's motor circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the control knob to off, leave it three seconds, then restart — Altimo's own reset for these machines. If the code returns straight away, it is a genuine fault, not a glitch.
Switch off at the wall for a minute before restarting, to clear any one-off electrical upset.
Take out some of the load. A drum crammed tight can stall the motor and provoke a motor-related stop, and it costs nothing to rule out.
