What E15 actually means
The machine has detected that the drying air has got too hot, so it has shut the drying cycle down to protect itself and your laundry.
E15 is a high temperature error. A sensor in the drying circuit is reporting a temperature above the limit the control board will allow, and rather than carry on heating, the machine halts and flags the code. In practice you'll usually see it part-way through a dry rather than at the start, often with warm, still-damp washing left in the drum.
What E15 looks like on a Altimo tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Altimo tumble dryer, E15 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- Not drying properly
- Takes hours to dry a load
- Getting hot but the clothes stay damp
- Keeps saying empty the water container
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Blocked lint filter restricting airflow through the drum
- Blocked or kinked vent hose, or a clogged condenser/filter area starving the machine of air
- Machine installed in a tight, unventilated space so it recirculates its own hot air
- Overloaded drum, so air cannot pass through the load
- A faulty temperature sensor or heater control on the drying circuit reporting or allowing too much heat
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall and let it cool right down before doing anything else.
- Take out the lint filter, clear it thoroughly and refit it — a felted layer of lint is the single most common reason airflow drops.
- If the dryer vents through a hose, check the hose is not kinked, crushed behind the machine or blocked, and that the outlet is clear.
- Make sure there is room for air around and behind the appliance, and that it isn't shut in a cupboard drawing in its own hot exhaust.
- Reset by turning the programme knob to the off position and leaving it for a few seconds, then run a smaller load and see whether the code returns.
Which Altimo models show E15
E15 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
