What E17 actually means
The temperature sensor that watches the air on the drying side has stopped giving the control board a sensible reading, so the machine won't run a drying cycle.
Altimo calls E17 a dryer NTC failure. The NTC is a small thermistor that tells the control board how hot the drying air is; if its reading goes open circuit, short circuit or simply out of range, the board has no safe way to control the heater and abandons the cycle. On these AWM washer-dryers you'll usually find the wash side still works normally \u2014 it's only when drying is selected, or when the cycle reaches the drying stage, that E17 appears and the load comes out wet.
What E17 looks like on a Altimo tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Altimo tumble dryer, E17 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Faulty drying air temperature sensor (NTC)
- A loose or corroded plug on the sensor
- Damaged or chafed wiring between the sensor and the control board
- Control board no longer reading the sensor correctly
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the programme knob to the off position and leave it for three seconds \u2014 this is Altimo's own reset and will clear a one-off glitch
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a drying programme again to see whether the code returns
- Clean out the lint filter and make sure nothing is blocking the drying air path, then retry
- Check the door shuts with a definite click, as a cycle that never gets going properly can leave you guessing at the cause
Which Altimo models show E17
E17 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
