What E01 actually means
The machine cannot confirm the door is shut and locked, so it refuses to run — or it lost the locked signal partway through a cycle and stopped.
Before it will heat or turn the drum, the control board waits for the door interlock to report "locked". E01 is raised either when that confirmation never arrives at the start, or when it disappears while a programme is already running. It is one of the few codes on this range that is shown to the end user rather than only in service mode, which tells you the manufacturer expects the owner to check the door first.
What E01 looks like on a Altimo tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Altimo tumble dryer, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed fully home, so the catch never engages
- Laundry, or a stray sock, trapped in the door seal holding it slightly open
- Worn or broken door catch or hinge letting the door sit proud
- Failed door interlock, which stops reporting locked once warm
- Loose or damaged wiring to the lock, or a control board fault
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door and shut it again firmly until you feel it latch
- Check nothing is caught between the door and the seal, and that the load is not pressed against the glass
- Take some of the load out if the drum is packed tight
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
- Look at whether the door sits flush with the front, or noticeably drops or sags when open
Which Altimo models show E01
E01 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

- Take some of the load out if the drum is packed tight.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme.
