Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E09 actually means

The dryer has decided the electricity reaching it is outside the range it will run on, so it has stopped and flagged a voltage fault.

Altimo's control board monitors the incoming mains supply while the machine runs. If the voltage sits too high or too low, or drops out momentarily, the board halts the programme and shows E09 rather than risk running the motor and heater on an unstable supply. It is one of the few codes on this range that Altimo deliberately displays to the owner rather than keeping for service engineers, which tells you it is often something outside the appliance itself.

What E09 looks like on a Altimo tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Altimo tumble dryer, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • An extension lead, travel adaptor or multi-way socket the dryer is plugged into
  • A poor or loose connection at the wall socket or plug
  • Genuine dips or surges in the household supply, sometimes only at certain times of day
  • A fault in the house circuit feeding the socket
  • A fault on the dryer's own control board, which then misreads the supply

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart — a brief supply dip can leave the code latched
  2. On models with a programme knob, turn it to the off position and leave it for a few seconds to reset the control
  3. Plug the dryer straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or adaptor block
  4. Check whether other appliances on the same circuit are also playing up, or whether lights dim when the dryer starts — useful information for whoever attends
  5. Try a different wall socket on another circuit if the cable reaches comfortably without stretching

Which Altimo models show E09

E09 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Common questions about Altimo E09

What does E09 mean on a Altimo tumble dryer?

The dryer has decided the electricity reaching it is outside the range it will run on, so it has stopped and flagged a voltage fault. Altimo's control board monitors the incoming mains supply while the machine runs. If the voltage sits too high or too low, or drops out momentarily, the board halts the programme and shows E09 rather than risk running the motor and heater on an unstable supply. It is one of the few codes on this range that Altimo deliberately displays to the owner rather than keeping for service engineers, which tells you it is often something outside the appliance itself.

Can I fix Altimo E09 myself?

There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart — a brief supply dip can leave the code latched.
  2. On models with a programme knob, turn it to the off position and leave it for a few seconds to reset the control.
  3. Plug the dryer straight into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or adaptor block.
  4. Check whether other appliances on the same circuit are also playing up, or whether lights dim when the dryer starts — useful information for whoever attends.
  5. Try a different wall socket on another circuit if the cable reaches comfortably without stretching.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
