What E04 actually means
The hob's own temperature sensor is giving a reading that doesn't change as it should, so the control has shut the cooking zone down rather than heat blind.
On these induction hobs an NTC temperature sensor sits with the coil and heatsink so the board knows how hot things are getting. E04 is logged when that sensor's value stays fixed instead of rising and falling with use — the board treats a stuck reading as untrustworthy and stops heating, because it can no longer tell whether the electronics are overheating. You'll usually see the zone refuse to come on, or cut out shortly after you set a heat level, with the code appearing on the display.
What E04 looks like on a Blomberg hob

What usually causes it
- A failed NTC temperature sensor on the induction coil or heatsink
- A loose or damaged sensor connection to the induction board
- A fault on the induction board itself, so the reading never updates
- Heat damage after the hob has been run with poor ventilation underneath
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the hob off at the wall or the isolating switch for a minute, then back on — a genuine one-off glitch will clear and not return
- Take any pan off the zone, let the hob cool completely, and try again from cold
- Wipe up spills and make sure nothing is sitting on or against the glass that would trap heat
- Check the appliance directly below the hob (oven, drawer) isn't running hot and blocking the airflow it relies on
