Blomberg E09 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What E09 actually means

The machine cannot lock the door, so it refuses to start the wash.

The control board sends power to the door interlock at the start of a cycle, and on E09 that switching circuit on the board has failed open — no lock signal ever reaches the door. Because the safety interlock cannot confirm the door is locked, the programme won't run, and if it stopped mid-cycle you can be left with water in the drum and detergent still on the laundry.

What E09 looks like on a Blomberg washing machine

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door and close it again firmly — make sure no laundry, sock or duvet corner is trapped in the seal or across the catch
Check the door isn't fouling on anything and that the catch lines up with the lock hole
Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and try a short cycle
If the drum still has water in it, don't force the door — leave it and note the code for the engineer
