What E20 actually means
The hood's own control electronics have found a fault inside themselves and shut the unit down.
E20 is not pointing at the fan, the filters or anything you can reach — it is the electronic board reporting an internal failure during its self-checks, so it stops rather than carry on. On these Hisense hob-extractor units it usually shows with the display locked out and no response from the controls. Hisense's own instructions give only one thing to try before calling someone out: a full power-down for at least a minute.
What E20 looks like on a Hisense cooker hood

What usually causes it

- Loose or damaged internal connections between the board and the control panel
- Moisture from spills or condensation getting into the control area
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Kill the power completely — the plug if it is on one, otherwise the circuit breaker or isolating switch — wait a full minute, then restore it. This clears the code on a good number of these.
- Wipe any spills, grease or condensation off the touch control surface and dry it thoroughly before powering back up.
- If the fault returns straight away or comes back within a day or two, treat it as a genuine board failure rather than a glitch and stop resetting it.
