Hoover E09 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What E09 actually means

The main circuit board that drives the motor has a fault, so the machine won't turn the drum.

On Hoover machines using the "Cuore" power board, E09 points to the part of that board which switches power to the motor (the motor TRIAC) having failed, or the wiring between board and motor being at fault. The control detects it cannot drive the motor correctly and halts the programme, usually with water still in the drum and no drum movement at all.

What E09 looks like on a Hoover washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Hoover washing machine, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Machine door won't open
Door won't lock or click shut
Door lock light flashing
Door stuck shut with the load inside
Won't start even with the door closed
Machine not draining

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — if E09 returns, the board needs attention
If there's water in the drum, drain it via the filter/drain hose at the front before opening the door
