What F07 actually means
The machine has spotted a fault in the heating side of its control board, so it stops the wash rather than carry on cold.
On Hotpoint and Indesit washers, F07 points at the circuit board's heating circuit — typically the relay that switches power to the heating element — rather than at the element itself. The machine sees the heater circuit misbehaving, halts the programme partway through, and often sits there with the pump running continuously and the water cold. It is a different fault from F08, which is the heater or its relay failing outright.
What usually causes it
- A failed heating relay on the main control board
- Poor or burnt connections on the heating circuit
- Damage to the control board itself
- Wiring fault between the board and the heating element
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle — occasionally a one-off glitch clears
- Note where in the cycle it stops and whether the water is cold, as that helps the engineer confirm it is the heating side
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
