What E01 actually means
The dishwasher has detected water where it shouldn't be — either too much in the tub or a leak — and has shut the cycle down to protect itself and your floor.
On these HYE dishwashers the E1 fault is the overflow and leak protection. A float or leak sensor in the base has been triggered, so the machine stops taking water in and normally runs the drain pump to get rid of what's already there. You'll usually see the End indicator flashing along with the beeping, and the programme won't restart until the condition clears.
What E01 looks like on a HYE dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a HYE dishwasher, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Dishwasher door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Dishwasher not draining
- Water left in the tub at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water

What usually causes it
- A genuine leak from a hose, door seal or the tub, collecting in the base tray
- Too much water let in because the inlet valve isn't shutting off fully
- Over-foaming from washing-up liquid or too much detergent, which the machine reads as overflow
- A blocked or restricted drain so water backs up in the tub
- A faulty float switch or leak sensor reporting water when there is none
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Look under and around the machine for water on the floor — if there is any, turn it off at the wall and leave it off until it's been looked at
- Take out the filters in the base of the tub, rinse them and refit them, and clear any food debris from the sump area
- Check the drain hose isn't kinked, crushed behind the machine or pushed too far into the standpipe
- If you've used hand washing-up liquid or a lot of detergent, sponge out the suds, run a rinse programme with no detergent and see if the fault clears
- Turn the power off at the socket for a minute and back on to reset the alarm — if E1 comes straight back, stop there
