What E02 actually means
The dishwasher isn't getting the water it expects, so it has stopped the cycle rather than run dry.
On HYE dishwashers, E02 is the water inlet fault. The machine opens its fill valve at the start of a fill and checks that water actually arrives at the expected rate; if it doesn't, it aborts and flashes the code, usually with a light on the programme sequence (the Drying or Rinse indicator, depending on model) blinking and a beep. You'll typically find the dishes untouched and dry, or a cycle that stalls very early on.
What E02 looks like on a HYE dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a HYE dishwasher, E02 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- Overfilling, or won't stop filling
- Stops with water still inside

- E02 flashing on the display

What usually causes it
- Tap to the dishwasher turned off or only part open
- Kinked, trapped or crushed fill hose behind the machine
- Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection at the tap end
- Faulty water inlet (fill) valve on the machine
- Water level sensing fault, so the machine cannot tell that water has arrived
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the water tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open — if the machine has recently been moved or a plumber has been in, this is the first thing to look at.
- Look behind the dishwasher and make sure the fill hose isn't kinked, pinched or squashed against the wall.
- Check nobody else in the house has water off, and run the kitchen tap to confirm you have normal mains pressure.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, switch it back on and start a short programme to see if the code returns.
- Clean the mesh filter inside the hose fitting at the tap end if you can undo it by hand with the tap turned off — no tools, and don't force it.
