Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What 3C actually means

The machine has stopped because the drum motor isn't running or turning the way the control board expects.

On this Samsung washer dryer, 3C is a motor fault. The control board watches the motor and the signal telling it how fast the drum is actually turning; if the drum won't spin up, stalls, or the speed reading doesn't match what was asked for, the cycle halts and 3C appears. It usually shows up at the point the drum should be tumbling or building up to a spin, and often comes with jerky drum movement or unusual noise beforehand.

What 3C looks like on a Samsung tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Samsung tumble dryer, 3C usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Drum not turning
  • Won't spin
  • Hums or buzzes but nothing moves

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Fault in the drum motor itself or the signal from it
  • A wiring connection to the motor that has worked loose or corroded
  • Control board no longer driving the motor correctly
  • Something jamming the drum so the motor cannot turn freely
  • A worn drum bearing or spider assembly loading up the motor — a well-known weak point on these EcoBubble machines

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and restart the cycle — an occasional 3C is a one-off reading
  2. Take some of the load out if the drum is packed tight, redistribute what's left and try again
  3. With the machine switched off at the wall, open the door and turn the drum by hand — it should move freely and quietly. Grinding, heavy resistance or a rumble points at the bearings rather than the motor
  4. Check nothing has worked its way past the drum seal, such as a coin or an underwire

Which Samsung models show 3C

3C means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
