What E04 actually means

If the weight stays lumped to one side, it will re-try a few times and then give up with this code, usually leaving the drum still full of water or the clothes soaking. What usually causes it

A single heavy item, such as a towel, dressing gown or mat, balled up on one side of the drum
Too small a load, so there is nothing to balance against
Overloading, leaving the washing no room to redistribute
The machine rocking or standing unevenly on the floor
Less commonly, a fault in the control board so the error won't clear at all

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door and shake the washing out, spreading it evenly around the drum, then restart the spin
If you are washing one bulky item on its own, add a couple of smaller items to balance it
Take some washing out if the drum is packed tight
Push gently on the corners of the machine to see if it rocks; if it does, it needs sitting level on a firm floor
Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power back up and try a spin-only cycle
