What E01 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start the wash.
Before filling, the washer locks the door and waits for a signal back to say the lock has engaged. If that signal doesn't arrive — because the door isn't properly latched or the lock itself has failed — the machine stops and shows E01. It's a safety interlock, so it won't run water or spin until it's satisfied.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed fully shut, or laundry trapped in the seal
- Faulty door lock/interlock unit
- Worn or misaligned door catch and hinges
- Broken wiring to the door lock
- Control board not reading the lock signal
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door and shut it firmly until you hear it click
- Check no clothing, socks or the rubber seal is caught in the doorway
- Wipe the catch area clean and make sure the door isn't sitting low or rubbing
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
