What E07 actually means

The washer dryer's control board has lost or rejected the settings that tell it which model it is, so it won't run a cycle.

These Sharp machines (built on the Vestel platform) store a configuration on the main control board — the data that tells the electronics what drum, motor, heater and dryer hardware it is driving. E07 is the board reporting that this configuration is missing, corrupted or doesn't match the machine, and it stops rather than run a programme blind. Worth knowing: on this platform E07 isn't normally shown on the customer display at all — it's flagged through the service interface — so if you're seeing it, the machine has usually been put into a test or diagnostic state, or the control board has been replaced or disturbed.

What E07 looks like on a Sharp washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Sharp washer dryer, E07 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry
  • Drum not turning
  • Won't spin
  • Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
  • Turns one way only

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Main control board recently replaced and not configured to the model
  • Stored settings corrupted after a power surge or supply interruption
  • Machine left in service/test mode after work was carried out
  • Fault developing in the control board's memory
  • Loose connection to the control board disturbing the data it reads

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch the machine off at the wall, leave it a minute, then switch back on — a clean restart clears a one-off glitch
  2. Check nobody has left the machine in a test or demo mode by pressing an unusual button combination; if in doubt, turn off at the wall and start a normal programme from cold
  3. Make sure the plug and socket are sound and the machine isn't sharing an overloaded extension lead

Which Sharp models show E07

E07 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
