Sharp F00 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F00 actually means

The dishwasher has sensed more water inside than it should have, and has shut the cycle down to stop it spilling out.

Sharp's own service coding for these Novus-based models lists F0/F00 as the overflow fault. A float or level device in the base has told the control board the water has gone past its safe limit, so the machine stops taking water in and normally runs the drain pump to get rid of what is there. The notes point out this code is not something you would see in normal running — if it has appeared, either genuinely too much water has entered or the sensing device believes it has.

What F00 looks like on a Sharp dishwasher

What usually causes it

Too much detergent or the wrong type, creating heavy foam that reads as overflow
A water inlet valve that keeps letting water in after the machine has had enough
A blocked or restricted drain, so water backs up rather than leaving
Water sitting in the base tray from a small leak, tripping the overflow float
A faulty float switch or level sensor giving a false reading

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall and close the water tap under the sink, then leave it for a minute before switching back on — if the code clears and comes straight back, stop there.
Lift out the filter in the bottom of the tub, rinse it under the tap and refit it properly so it locks down.
Look at the drain hose behind the machine for kinks or crushing where it meets the cabinet.
If you have been using more than the recommended amount of detergent, or a washing-up liquid instead of dishwasher detergent, run a cycle with the correct dose only — excess foam is a common trigger.
