Sharp F05 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F05 actually means

The dishwasher has spotted water still coming in when it should have stopped filling, so it has halted the programme and it wants the tap turned off.

On these Sharp machines F05 is the continuous water input fault — the control board sees the tub level rising, or not stopping, when the fill should already be finished. Because an uncontrolled fill can put water on the floor, the machine cuts the programme rather than carrying on. The usual cause is that water is getting past the fill valve even when the valve is closed, so it can keep filling while switched off.

What F05 looks like on a Sharp dishwasher

What usually causes it

The water inlet valve no longer shutting off fully, letting water trickle in
A faulty or wrongly reading water level sensor telling the board the tub is still filling
Debris or scale holding the inlet valve slightly open
A drain hose set up so the machine siphons water back in
A control board fault misreading the level signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the water supply tap off at the wall — this is the first thing to do with F05, and it stops any further filling.
Switch the machine off at the socket for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code returns when you restart a programme (with the tap back on and you standing there).
Check the filters in the base of the tub are clean and seated properly.
Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far down into the standpipe or sink trap.
