What E29 actually means
The machine has not taken in enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped the cycle before washing starts.
On these Siemens washer dryers the control board gives the fill valves a set window to bring the drum up to the level it wants. If that level isn't reached in time, the cycle is halted and E29 is shown rather than letting the machine run on dry. It is the same physical fault that later Bosch and Siemens models report as E30-10, and on older machines it may also appear as F29, E17 or F17 — the display wording changed, the fault did not.
What E29 looks like on a Siemens washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Siemens washer dryer, E29 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up

What usually causes it
- Water supply tap turned off or only part open
- Kinked, trapped or crushed cold fill hose behind the machine
- Blocked mesh filter in the inlet where the hose screws on
- Faulty water inlet valve not opening when told to
- Pressure/level sensing or control board fault so the machine cannot tell it has filled
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the water tap feeding the machine is fully open, and that the mains supply to the house is on and at normal pressure elsewhere.
- Pull the machine forward gently and look along the fill hose for kinks or the hose being pinned against the wall.
- Turn the tap off and unscrew the fill hose at the tap end by hand — there is usually a small mesh filter in the connector that clogs with grit. Rinse it and reconnect finger-tight, then turn the tap back on and check for drips.
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart a short programme to see whether the code returns straight away.
