What F29 actually means
The machine has not taken in the water it expected, so it has stopped rather than carry on with an empty or half-full drum.
On Siemens washer dryers of this generation, the control board gives the appliance a set window to fill to the level it wants at the start of a cycle. If the water does not arrive in that time — or arrives too slowly to register — the cycle is abandoned and F29 is shown. The same physical fault appears as F17, E17 or E29 on related Bosch and Siemens machines, and on newer models as E30-10, so anything you read about those codes applies here too.
What F29 looks like on a Siemens washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Siemens washer dryer, F29 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle

What usually causes it
- Water supply turned off, or the tap not opened fully after work in the kitchen
- The little mesh filter in the end of the fill hose blocked with grit and scale
- Fill hose kinked or crushed behind the machine, often after it has been pushed back into place
- Low mains water pressure at the time the machine tried to fill
- Faulty water inlet valve on the back of the machine, or a flow meter that no longer registers water passing through it
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open, and run the kitchen tap to confirm you actually have decent pressure and flow
- Pull the machine out gently and look along the fill hose for a kink or a tight bend against the wall
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart a short programme — this clears a one-off fill failure
- If your supply is hard water, note that the inlet filter clogging is very common; a plumber or engineer can clean it, but do not undo the hose yourself unless you are confident turning the water off first
