What E06 actually means
The two electronic boards inside your fridge freezer have stopped talking to each other, so the appliance has flagged a communication fault.
E06 is a communication error — the main control board and the display/user interface board are no longer exchanging signals properly. On these models it usually shows up as a pair of temperature icons flashing together on the display alongside the code. Cooling may carry on in the background, but you lose reliable control and readout, so the machine flags it rather than running blind.
What E06 looks like on a Tesla fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Tesla fridge freezer, E06 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Fridge freezer door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not cooling
- Freezer not freezing
- Ice building up at the back
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A loose or partly unseated connector between the display board and the main control board
- A damaged or chafed ribbon/wiring link between the two boards, often where it passes through the door hinge area or cabinet
- Moisture or condensation getting into the display module behind the fascia
- A failed user interface board
- A failed main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute or two, then switch it back on — a genuine one-off glitch will often clear and not return.
- Check nothing has been pushed hard against the back of the appliance that could have trapped or crushed the wiring behind it.
- Note down what the display is doing — which icons flash with the code, and whether the compressor is still running — it saves time when an engineer attends.
Which Tesla models show E06
E06 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
