What E07 actually means

The sensor that tells the fridge freezer how warm the room is has stopped giving a sensible reading, so the control board has flagged a fault.

Alongside the sensors inside the cabinet, these Tesla models use a separate ambient sensor to measure the temperature of the room around the appliance, and the control board uses that to decide how hard and how often to run. When that reading goes out of range or disappears altogether, the board shows E07 and lights a pair of the temperature icons together on the display. Cooling normally carries on, but the appliance is no longer adjusting itself properly to the room, so it can run more than it should or hold temperature less accurately.

What E07 looks like on a Tesla fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Tesla fridge freezer, E07 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not heating the water
  • Washing coming out cold
  • Cycle takes far longer than it should
  • Not cooling
  • Freezer not freezing
  • Ice building up at the back
  • Food going off in the fridge
  • Running constantly and never getting cold

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Failed ambient temperature sensor (much the most common)
  • A loose or corroded plug on the sensor lead
  • Damage to the sensor wiring inside the cabinet
  • A fault on the control board reading the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the socket, leave it a minute, then switch it back on — a one-off glitch will clear and not come back.
  2. Check the appliance is not sitting somewhere with an extreme room temperature, such as an unheated garage or hard against a cooker or radiator.
  3. Make sure the ventilation gaps at the back and top are clear and nothing is pushed up against the rear of the cabinet.

Which Tesla models show E07

E07 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Tesla E07 myself?

There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
