What C11 actually means
C11 isn't a fault at all — it's the engineer's diagnostic menu position that plays back the machine's last three stored error codes.
On these Electrolux washers, turning the programme selector to position 11 in service mode puts the machine into "last alarm display". It then shows the three most recent alarms in turn, newest first, in the form Exx — for example E42. If you're seeing C11 on the display, the machine has been put into diagnostic mode rather than reporting a new problem, and the codes that follow it are the ones worth writing down.
What usually causes it
- The selector was left in the service/diagnostic position after a test
- The diagnostic key combination was pressed accidentally while starting a cycle
- An engineer or previous owner ran a test and the machine never came out of it
- A genuine earlier fault is stored and being replayed as an Exx code
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Note down any Exx codes that appear after C11 — those are the real faults and they help whoever attends
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and select a normal programme from scratch
- Check the programme selector is properly on a wash programme and not between positions
When to call someone
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
