What E10 actually means

The machine isn't getting water in fast enough, so it has paused and is asking you to check the tap.

Electrolux washers give the fill valve a set time to bring the water level up. If that time runs out, the machine stops mid-fill, shows E10 (some models spell it out as "Check the tap") and beeps three times every twenty seconds or so. The drum will sit with the door locked and the cycle held in pause until water arrives or you switch it off.

What usually causes it

  • Water tap turned off or only part open
  • Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection or the tap
  • Kinked or trapped fill hose behind the machine
  • Weak mains water pressure, or a stopcock left half shut after other work
  • Faulty inlet valve not opening, or low flow through it

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the water tap fully on and check it hasn't been knocked shut.
  2. Look behind the machine and straighten any kinked or squashed fill hose.
  3. Run a nearby cold tap to confirm you actually have mains pressure.
  4. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then restart a short cycle and listen for water entering.

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
