Electrolux E31 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E31 actually means

The sensor that tells the machine how much water is inside has stopped sending a sensible reading, so the wash is halted.

Electrolux washer dryers use an electronic pressure switch that reports the water level as a frequency signal, and the control board only accepts readings inside a narrow band. When the signal sits outside that band for around five seconds, and does so again after a short pause, the board gives up and flags the fault. Without a trustworthy water level reading the machine will not fill, heat or drain safely, so it stops rather than risk overfilling.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and start a fresh cycle — if the reading was a one-off glitch it will clear
Clean the drain filter and check the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe, so the machine is not left sitting in water
Note whether the fault appears straight away at the start of a cycle or partway through, and mention it when you book — it helps narrow the diagnosis
