What E41 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start or continue the cycle.
Before it will run, the washer dryer has to lock the door and get confirmation back that it is locked. On this model the control gives the lock a short window to do that and retries a few times; if it still reads the door as open, the cycle pauses and E41 appears. It is a door-detection fault, not a wash or drying fault or confirmation it never gets.
What E41 looks like on a Electrolux washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux washer dryer, E41 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed fully home agin the seal, or laundry trapped in the opening
- A worn or slack door catch that no longer seats deep enough for the lock to engage
- Faulty door lock unit o not sending back the confirmation signal
- Broken or loose wiring between the door lock and the control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door, clear any laundry caught around the seal, and close it firmly until you hear it latch not a light push
- Look for a sock or towel hooked over the lip of the door opening
- Wipe the seal and the latch area detergent residue and grit can stop the door seating properly
- Press Start/Pause this code clears on Start/Pause or by resetting the cycle; switching the machine off at the wall alone will not clear it
Which Electrolux models show E41
E41 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
