Electrolux E57 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E57 actually means

The machine has detected a sudden surge of current in the motor circuit and has cut power to the motor to protect itself.

E57 comes from the motor control board (the inverter, referred to in Electrolux's own documents as the FCV board). It watches the current going to the motor and, if that current spikes past a fixed hardware limit of 15A, it shuts the motor down instantly — that limit is built into the hardware, not something software can override. The machine gives itself five attempts, with a two-minute pause between each while the board is switched off, and if the surge is still there on the last try it stores the fault, stops and releases the door. In practice it means either a short circuit between the motor windings or damage on the control board itself.
