What E61 actually means

The water in the drum didn't reach the temperature the programme asked for within the time allowed, so the machine gave up on heating.

During a wash, the control board sets a time limit for each heating phase and counts down until the NTC temperature sensor reports the target has been reached. If that time runs out first, E61 is logged, the heating phase is skipped and the cycle carries on — so the wash either pauses or finishes with cold or barely warm water. On some Electrolux control platforms this code is only visible in service mode rather than on the display, which is why owners often notice cold washes long before they see a code.

Heating cut short by very cold incoming water on a long low-temperature programme

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Switch off at the wall for a minute, then run a 60°C cotton wash and feel the door glass part-way through — if it stays cold, the heating circuit is at fault
Check you haven't accidentally selected a cold or eco programme, or an option that limits the wash temperature
Make sure the machine is fed from a cold fill tap that is fully open, so it isn't struggling with a slow fill
