Electrolux E32 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E32 actually means

The machine cannot get a steady reading from its water level sensor at the start of the cycle, so it stops rather than risk filling blind.

Every time an Electrolux washer dryer starts a programme it briefly drains and then calibrates its electronic pressure sensor — the part that tells the control board how much water is in the tub. If the signal keeps wandering (the manual puts the limit at more than 2mm of water movement) for the whole calibration window, the control gives up and sets E32. The cycle is paused with the door locked, and on most boards you cannot clear it by turning the machine off — it has to be reset from the cycle itself.

What usually causes it

A water inlet valve that isn't shutting fully, so water keeps trickling in and the level never settles
A leak or split in the air trap and pressure hose behind the tub, which is what the sensor actually reads through
A faulty electronic pressure sensor giving an unstable signal
Wiring to the sensor, or the main control board itself

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Press Start/Pause or cancel and reset the programme — E32 forces a fresh calibration on the next cycle, and if it was a one-off the machine will carry on normally
Turn the water taps off for a minute, then back on, and watch whether water is dripping into the drum with the machine idle and the programme not running — a slow trickle points to an inlet valve
Check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe, and clean the pump filter at the bottom front so the initial drain can finish
Make sure the drum isn't overloaded and the door is closing squarely on its catch
