What E01 actually means
The machine hasn't taken in enough water within the time it allows, so it has stopped rather than carry on with a part-filled drum.
During the fill stage the washer dryer watches the water level and expects it to reach the right point within a set time. On the HW9140W, E01 is the fill timeout — either water isn't arriving quickly enough, or it is running straight back out again as fast as it comes in. The fault points at three things: a closed tap, a drain hose sitting too low, and a failed inlet valve.
What E01 looks like on a Haden washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Haden washer dryer, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom
- Not filling with water

What usually causes it
- Water tap at the wall turned off or only part open
- Drain hose end sitting too low, so water siphons away while the drum is filling
- Kinked or trapped inlet hose, or a blocked filter in the hose connection
- Faulty water inlet valve not opening properly
- Water level sensor or its wiring giving the control board a false reading
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open and that you get a decent flow from it.
- Look along the inlet hose for kinks or crush points, particularly where the machine has been pushed back against the wall.
- Make sure the drain hose end is hooked up at the correct height and not lying on the floor or pushed deep into the standpipe — if it sits too low the water drains away as it fills.
- Turn the machine off at the socket for a minute, switch back on and restart a short programme to see if the code returns.
- Clean the drain pump filter at the bottom front of the machine while the machine is switched off at the wall.
