Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E07 actually means

The machine thinks the door lock is stuck in the locked position, so it won't carry on or let you open the door.

On Hoover washing machines E07 points to the door safety interlock — the device that clamps the door shut and tells the control board it's safe to fill and spin. The board is either seeing the lock stay engaged when it should have released, or getting a confused signal from it or its wiring, so the cycle halts. Typically you'll find the drum stops and the door stays locked even after the programme ends.

What usually causes it

  • Worn or failed door interlock that no longer releases
  • Door catch or handle not lining up, holding the lock engaged
  • Damaged or loose wiring to the interlock
  • Control board misreading the lock signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute or two, then switch back on — the lock often releases as it powers down
  2. Wait a few minutes after a hot wash; some locks stay shut until the water cools and pressure drops
  3. Check nothing (a trapped garment, a sock in the seal) is stopping the door closing squarely
  4. Push the door firmly shut and try a short cycle to see if the code returns

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
