What F15 actually means
The machine has lost proper control of its heating, so it either won't heat the water or won't heat the air for drying, and it stops or pauses rather than carrying on.
On Hotpoint washer dryers, F15 is a heater control fault. The control board watches what the heating circuit is doing and compares it with what it asked for — if the two don't match, it halts the programme rather than continue blind. Typically the owner sees the cycle stall part-way through a wash, or the drying phase run with cold air and clothes coming out damp. Worth noting that F15 on a Hotpoint dishwasher means something completely different (a virtual sensor fault), so don't go by dishwasher advice you find online.

- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and restart the programme — occasionally it clears a one-off glitch and the code doesn't return
- Clean out the fluff and lint filter, and check the drum is not crammed full, as poor airflow puts the drying heater under stress
- If the code comes straight back, stop there — everything else behind this fault is inside the machine and on live wiring
