What F02 actually means
The machine has stopped because it can't drive the drum properly — the motor, or the board controlling it, isn't behaving as expected.
On Indesit washing machines F02 is a motor fault. The control board sends power to the motor and watches for the drum to turn and reach the right speed; when the feedback doesn't match, it halts the cycle and shows F02. The usual giveaway is a drum that sits still while the machine fills or tries to wash, or one that won't spin up at the end.
What F02 looks like on a Indesit washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Indesit washing machine, F02 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Worn carbon brushes on a brush-type motor, so the drum won't turn
- Faulty motor speed sensor (tachometer) on the motor
- Failed relay or track on the motor control board
- Loose or damaged motor wiring plug
- Motor windings failed on induction-motor models
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a couple of minutes, then switch back on and restart a short cycle — it occasionally clears a one-off glitch
- Take out some washing if the drum is packed tight and try again on a short programme
- Check nothing has jammed the drum, such as a coin or wire from a bra, by turning the drum gently by hand with the door open and the power off
