Indesit F06 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What F06 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is locked, so it refuses to start the cycle — or it won't release the door at the end.

Before any Indesit washer dryer will fill or turn the drum, the control board has to see a "door locked" signal back from the interlock on the door frame. When that signal doesn't arrive, F06 appears and the programme won't begin. The same code can show at the other end of a cycle, where the door stays shut with water still in the drum because the board cannot confirm the lock has released.

What F06 looks like on a Indesit washer dryer

What usually causes it

A failed door interlock — the usual culprit by a long way
Damaged or overheated wiring and plug at the interlock
A door catch or hinge out of alignment, so the lock never fully engages
A fault on the main control board that reads the lock signal
On some older Indesit control boards, F06 is instead logged as a programme selector fault

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open and reclose the door firmly and see if the code clears — a load pushed against the door or a bra strap over the seal can stop the catch seating.
Check the rubber seal around the opening for anything trapped between door and frame.
Switch off at the wall socket for a minute, then power back up and reselect the programme; occasional false readings clear this way.
Check whether your machine is affected by the Whirlpool door interlock recall (Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda and Ariston models) on the manufacturer's recall checker before doing anything else.
If there is any smell of burning or scorching around the door area, leave it unplugged and book an engineer.
