What E08 actually means

The temperature sensor for the ice maker has failed, so the ice maker has been shut down — the fridge and freezer themselves carry on cooling.

The control board watches a small sensor in the automatic ice maker (the icematic). If that sensor reads as open circuit or short circuit, the board stops trusting it and disables ice production rather than risk running the unit blind. You'll see the code alternating with the freezer set temperature on the display, with the warning symbol lit.

What E08 looks like on a Leisure fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Leisure fridge freezer, E08 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not heating the water
  • Washing coming out cold
  • Cycle takes far longer than it should
  • Not cooling
  • Freezer not freezing
  • Ice building up at the back
  • Food going off in the fridge
  • Running constantly and never getting cold

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Failed icematic sensor (the usual finding)
  • A loose or corroded plug on the sensor wiring
  • Damage to the sensor lead where it runs to the ice maker
  • Control board fault misreading the sensor — less common

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on — occasionally the warning clears if it was a momentary reading
  2. Check the ice maker isn't jammed with a block of ice or frozen-together cubes, and let any build-up thaw before running it again

Which Leisure models show E08

E08 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

What does E08 mean on a Leisure fridge freezer?

Can I fix Leisure E08 myself?

There are 2 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on — occasionally the warning clears if it was a momentary reading.
  2. Check the ice maker isn't jammed with a block of ice or frozen-together cubes, and let any build-up thaw before running it again.
