Rangemaster F01 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F01 actually means

The dishwasher has decided there is too much water inside it and has shut down to stop it overflowing onto your floor.

Rangemaster's own instructions for this code are blunt: F01 (shown as F1 on the display) means there is a risk of water overflow, and you should turn the water tap off and get the machine looked at. The dishwasher monitors its water level, and when it sees a full level that it cannot clear \u2014 or water where there shouldn't be any \u2014 it locks out and runs the drain pump rather than carrying on. The fault also links the same display to a drain timeout, where the machine has pumped for a long spell and the level still reads full.

What F01 looks like on a Rangemaster dishwasher

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Rangemaster dishwasher, F01 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Dishwasher not draining
Water left in the tub at the end of the cycle
Stops mid-cycle full of water
Standing water in the bottom
Not filling with water
No water going in
Takes for ever to fill
Stops right at the start of the cycle

What usually causes it

Water not draining away, so the level never drops \u2014 blocked filter, blocked or kinked drain hose, or a blocked sink spigot
A leak inside the machine reaching the base tray, which trips the overflow protection
The water inlet valve letting water in when it should be shut off
A faulty pressure/level sensor telling the control board the tub is full when it isn't
Drain pump worn or jammed by debris such as glass, labels or fruit stones

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the water tap off at the wall \u2014 this is what Rangemaster tell you to do first, and it stops any further water entering
Switch the dishwasher off at the socket for a minute, then back on, to see if the lockout clears
Lift out and rinse the filter assembly in the bottom of the tub, clearing any food debris, glass or paper labels
Check the drain hose behind the machine is not kinked, crushed against the wall or pushed too far into the standpipe
If the machine drains into a sink waste, check the spigot has been unblanked and the waste itself isn't blocked
Mop out any standing water in the bottom of the tub with a cloth before retrying
